So my dog LOVES her red Kong. Sometimes it goes missing for a while so I try to get her to play with the other red kong that we bought for her. Slightly different shape but same texture, etc. She refuses. She knows as soon as I throw it that it's not the right one and stops running mid-way to the thrown toy.
She does play with other toys (tennis balls) but some she flat out rejects.
Kona, my ball dog, will only play with a certain type of ball. I bought 300 of them about 8 years ago before the company stopped producing them, can't find them anywhere now and we only have a few dozen left. It will be a sad, sad day in Kona-land when we get to the last ball.

Yours do the same?
Ab-so-lutely.
They'll only play with the tiniest plush squeaky toy on the planet, the extra-small Kong teddy bear or duck.
They're about 2.5" long and fit perfectly in their tiny Chi mouths. I stopped buying any other toy, because they simply won't play with them.
