Our German Shepherds took about a month or two to be trained with accidents in the house being our fault. Our Golden Retriever took about 6 months before she stopped. In her defense, she probably smelled some of the old spots that our Bichon had done, so be sure to thoroughly clean them.

Bichons are notorious for being hard to potty train. I've had two for a total of 27 years- one for 16 and our present Lucy for 11. I think I was successful with both dogs because I was home all day with them and could devote a great deal of time to the task. Also they are velcro dogs and tend to get a bit nervous or unhappy when their person is not in sight.
