I read this and it stayed with me as well. Tragic is too small of a word to describe what happened to this family.

Oh my gosh, how heartbreakingly sad!

There was a similar story in MA this summer:
Massachusetts couple dies while trying to save dog from lake - National Dogs | Examiner.com
The TV news stories brought tears to my eyes. The couple was so in love and their grandson said that he was at least grateful that they died together.

But in the story that you posted... that poor girl without her parents and brother. My gosh...

The dog survived. So sad. Not that the dog survived, but sad they died needlessly.
