A fellow rescuer has taken in 2 stray dogs she found in her neighborhood. Yes, posters have gone up, reported to animal control... everything that needs to be done. Apparently, the female has a tattoo on her belly. From her e-mail:

The female dog has a tattoo on her belly but it doesn't look like a regular spay tattoo which is a circle with a line through it. It looks like a bunch of circles or a rose. Any ideas about that?

Does anyone recognize such a tattoo? I'll see if she can get a photo of it.

Is the dog with the tattoo purebred? Could it be a breeder's identification tattoo and possibly numbers or letters?

Oh yea, all that was done a couple of days ago. She just noticed the tattoo today. If she gets anyone to respond to her posters/notices, etc., at least she has something to help positively id the owner.

The shelter I volunteer at had a litter of puppies brought in by a man who, apparently, was a tattoo artist. All the puppies were tattooed with his "artwork".

Health depts dont care as long as its not the same needles nor location. I use to know Tatoo Artist that went to Dog Shows & tatooed dogs on weekends. Thing is SOME one might reconise the tatoo & lead to finding the Owner!

When I was a Breeder I tatooed all my pups with there own AKC# That way IF they were lost or stolen even If the buyer never put the dog in their name I would be called. All I had to do was check my records..
