Tiny was neutered about 6 weeks ago..He is now 7 months old. He just started humping everything and I'm wondering if this is normal or if the surgery didn't work??!! I guess I should call his vet ....
1: 7 months ol is the normal ge for toy breeds to start feeling like "big boys" not only on the sexual front but on the mental maturity front too...humping is a very common dominance factor.
2: neiter can tak up to 3 months to completly kill those hormones so having "hormonal" behaviour is quite normal for a while after the neuter...
i would give the vet a call if your cocerned, butid pretty much at this point reirect the unwanted behaivour (humping) give him one "hump toy" and put it in his bed/crate so he learns thats the only time its acceptable behaviour and then redirect when he tries to do it to other toys, humans ect by taking the toy and playing with him with it so he cant hump it, or if hes trying to hump the person walking away (or getting a toy an interacting)
humping can also be a symptom of boredom.
Sex is a gland in the brain Not in the Gonads! You can train him to curb the behavour. Distrat him with playtime! Work on obedience! Take him for walks!
Yes, it can take up to a month for the testosterone to vacate the system. At the same time mounting can also be a sign of dominance, which will require behavior modification.
He just started doing this about a week ago..never did it before..He is only 4 lbs , and much smaller than my other 2 male chihuahuas. He "mounts" a stuffed bunny and a heart pillow..I have never seen my other 2 dogs ever do any mounting or humping behavior.. I remember the vet telling me that the testosterone would be out of his system in 24 hours, and that was over a month ago. At the time, I didn't even think anything of it because he never exhibited any of this behavior. My biggest worry is having to re-do the surgery because the whole cone on his neck thing and keeping him away from the other dogs was not fun..
My guy is 4 and he loves to hump his bed lol...He doesn't hump people or pillows or anything inappropriate, only his dog bed. I guess it just feels good?
