How is he this morning? Pumpkin worked wonders for my dog when he had the doggie trots a few months ago. I fed him boiled chicken and rice for a few days until he seemed back to normal, then I started mixing his usual food back in until he was back to just kibbles. I think he was disappointed - he really enjoyed the special meals!
Hello all! Spanky didn't hold down the pumpkin again last night. I pulled out my vet book to see what else I could do for him. It said withold food and water for 12 hours, then start with ice chips, every 2 to 3 hours. (I started giving him those at noon and so far, he has held it down.
It then recommends the boiled rice with hamburger or chicken (boiling brings out the fat, because the fat is harder to digest.)
We've been sleeping alot today as we were up most of the night. I should say I was up most of the night. He did well and slept. The rice and meat is given in small portions, for a couple of days. Then working his kibble back into his diet.
Thank you everyone for asking about Spanky, it's great having on-line friends to turn to in the middle of the night!!!
P.S. I did call the vet and they agreed with what I am doing. They DID say if he could NOT hold down the bland diet tonight (small quantity) then call again in the morning and we would set up an appointment. They said the key is stopping the cycle of vomiting and by withholding food and water for 12 hours, that is what his tummy needs.
I am going to make his bland food (he'll think it's a treat!)

Okay, Spanky has diarrhea and I know pumpkin works for that...not sure on how much to give him? Spanky is about 70-75lbs.
I gave him about two tablespoons of pumpkin (out of the can - 100% pumpkin) and now he can't seem to hold that down. I've checked his skin, he's not dehydrated, yet. (I'd like to keep it that way.)
How much pumpkin should he get once be can hold it down?
Thanks in advance!
my dog had this 2 weeks ago and could not even drink water.
On a Sunday she went to the vet and I did ask him to keep her which he did. She was also put on fluids
and eats OK now but wants way to much water and needs to go out lots.
she had a complete blood profile and most did come back OK. Oh I just did finish the pumkin with rice
I had for the dog b4 her vet visit. She is now on a liver diet. I hope your dog gets well soon.
