I'm sorry to hear that, Driller. I think Bear would want you to sleep in your bed.

This and him weighing almost 80lbs of course, shakes the whole bed and wakes me up.

When I first turn out the light, I make him lay down on the other side of the bed but he eventually has to get right next to me and it just makes it hard to sleep. How did you teach your dog proper bed etiquette? Will he get better with age?

I would like to get him out of the crate at night.
I am not a big fan of doggies in the bed, but I know exactly what you are talking about.
I have a 60 pound smooth collie flopper. Who gets closer and closer and closer until she's right on top of you.
But she can't just lie down...it has to be a FLOP.

Yeah, buy a doggie bed, put it next to your bed, and let Dobie sleep there.

My rough collie would get so angry that WE moved, she finally stopped trying to sleep with us...LOL!
It's funny when it's YOU annoying the dog.

When my lab got old, he flopped all night when he was repositioning himself to get his old bones comfortable. I finally had to put a stop to the sleeping in bed because his flopping kept waking me up all night. I couldn't just get a doggie bed and say sleep there since he could jump up onto the bed. I pulled my high four poster bed out of the attic storage. Neither dog can jump up there. It's not a solution for someone with a dog young enough or big enough to jump up though.

Interestingly, Shiner flopped more when she was younger (my wife was convinced she was literally FLINGING herself onto the bed)...she's much more sedate now (she's almost 5).

Our bed is very high...I always worry about the dogs getting up and down. Even our big dogs.

I have 3 that are my bed buddies. Two sleep off to the side where they aren't in my way but my pit has to be right by my side and under the covers. Back when we had the October storm and no heat - I was glad to have these babies with me!
