I just got an update from her...

"Left him to go to work for a few hours and he seemed okay but standoffish when I got back - still didn't need to pee, so I may just be overestimating how often he may need to go and making it harder on myself. He did poop on the floor this morning after breakfast, so helps me understand his timing.

I just need to adjust, I guess - he's still adorable and sweet and well-behaved, just a little nervous and confused."

So I guess it will just take some time and both of them learning about each other. She's been wanting a dog for the longest time, but had to get through her schooling etc. and find an apartment that would take dogs. She never considered anything other than a rescue dog. Her work involves foster children, so she would naturally want to get a dog that needed a forever home, just like kids in foster care. Her life has been pretty self centered (for good reasons), so this will be a good way for her to change her ways a bit!

Thanks for all the support and encouragement, all. I for one, am thrilled to have a granddog! But I'll just stay out of the way until they are in a good place. Then I'm taking him to Disneyland!

Potty timing -- very important point. Always ten minutes or so after eating. Always after a nap or a long sleep. Always after rowdy play. And always within 45 minutes of you seeing them take a good drink of water. That's how it works for pee. Pooping is a bit harder to gauge, but at least it's less frequent!
