Default How often do you give your Dog a Bath?

My husband and I was debating last night about giving a Dog a bath. He said once a year unless the dog encounter a skunk then it tomatoe sauce bath or if it is cover in dirt. I think at least once a month. He said it isn't good for the dog Skin. So how often do you give your dog a bath? Please note my puppy is an indoor and outdoor dog.

A few times a year... that wasn't a selection. I'd say depending on what happens it's 3-4 times a year. Your husband is right in that once a month is too much too soon.

I didn't vote because there was not an option that was in line with what I do.

My dog gets a bath when she needs one. If we have been to the beach she gets a bath. If she has wallowed in something nasty she gets a bath. If she smells like a dog she gets a bath.

Not sure what kind of a dog you have, but double coated dogs should only be bathed once or twice a year. Indoor outdoor models every 6-8 weeks, depending on the dog & what it has gotten into.

Bathing too often can deplete essential oils from a dogs' skin. Dogs, like people are all different so there is really no pat answer for you. Most important thing is to use the right kind of shampoo for your dog.

I never wash mine. I would if she encountered a skunk or something. It isn't good for their coat you can dry out their skin by shampooing too much by stripping the natural oils. Also make sure you NEVER use human shampoo. Mind you I have a Lab so coat maintenance is minimal.

Same as Evey, but I will bathe Boone before a show. I also hose him off but not with soap if he's been swimming in a lake or creek, just to un-gunk him. The other two dogs, I can't remember when they've had baths, but they've also been hosed regularly. Everybody gets brushed frequently, and we don't have a stink problem.

Very Interesting. Thank You very much for your honesty.... I have a puppy now but she will have long hair. I do brush her every other night. I did recently washed her because she was stinky ( I think it was dog smell) with dog shampoo. Do you all brush your dog teeth?

I do not brush my dogs' teeth. I give my dog healthy things to chew on and her teeth do not need to be brushed. My vet comments every time he sees her that her teeth are in remarkable shape.

I feed her dried sting ray tail, deer antler, bullstix, and other tough all natural things. Other than 1/2 can of wet food in the mornings everything she eats is hard.

U brush my dogs teeth once a week, because he has a small mouth and small mouths stink quicker in the doggie world!
I only brush his teeth when it smells like what we call "LIZARD BREATH"
.....I dont' feed him wet food, but sticks of sorts, a little people food here and there, treats and dog food.

Depends on what you consider a bath. If hosing them off when they are muddy counts then its a few times a week.
