Our SAR dogs hunt, just people instead of birds or game but the field labs and working line herding dogs [yes, definite show vs work delineation there as well] tend to do very well.
It would be nice to find nice ESS over here like in England. The American ESS is a sad caricature of that breed.
I don't know if it is the case in field bred hunting stock by it seems in the working lined herding dogs there is less intense line breeding and inbreeding on the working stock as well.
