Tennessee, PUTNAM COUNTY -- An 11-month-old baby was mauled to death by two dogs inside a home on Sun Valley Circle yesterday afternoon, according to Putnam Sheriff David Andrews.

Although the case is still under investigation today and details are sketchy, deputies say it happened about 4:20 p.m. Monday while the child was inside a playpen in a room where two Siberian Husky dogs were.

"As I understand it, the mother left the room and came back and found the baby was not breathing," said Deputy Bill Hunter, an animal control officer who later took the dogs to the animal shelter.

What would make 2 huskies maul an infant, that was enclosed in a playpen? Was this the owners not training them right? I can't think the baby was doing something that provoked the doggies to maul.

this is distressing... I will be getting a big hunk of a loving intimidating looking doggie ...and was looking into huskies as far as breeds go!!

The poor family... my heart goes out to them as well. Should we feel bad for the dogs too?

(this is not a sarcastic post ~ I don't quite know what to make of the attack)

Ive read about dogs getting jealous of infants, but its all speculation. Id rather just with the family best than debate something well never ever know.

This is off-the-chart tragic! I'm shocked that this has happened. I don't imagine that the baby could have provoked the attack and may have been mauled because of scent? Maybe because the infant was obviously vulnerable? Horrible and tragic, breaks my heart for the family and their loss.

She came back to the baby pen and her child wasn't breathing? Sounds hokey to me. Mothers do kill their kids and we could hear this one did it and was trying to cover it up by saying the dogs did it.

It mentions puncture wounds on the body.

and it also mentions small punture wounds on the playpen and sadly they are putting the two dogs down because of it. Who knows what happened, maybe the baby was throwing toys out at the dogs, maybe the baby was holding a toy and the dogs wanted to play, maybe the baby was crying, who knows. it's very tragic for both the baby, the family and those dogs. Interesting though the article makes it sound like the owner happily handed over the two dogs. While I would be devastated if one of my fur babies did this I would be equally devastated at the thought of having to put them down.
