a. Plenty to lose - maybe even more than you - but I'm real good at not losing it .
b. Sure, that's how I was raised, we adopt or take in dogs in need, never seen a reason to do otherwise.
c. Been there, done that, got out alive. Now I live in the South where I can buy a gun as easily as I can buy a pack of gum, I don't need to rely on a dog for protection, I choose to have the types of dogs I do because I like them. But yes, they do serve as good deterrent, nothing wrong with that, and none of them are "mean", just good-sized muscular dogs that are a good visual and vocal deterrent.

"Mean dowg" Nah. I admit, my brindle boy would deter a mugger just because of his looks but he's more likely to want to play with the mugger than hurt him.
OTOH, my dachshunds will rip your ankles to shreds if you even look at mom the wrong way

I was never a pit bull fan. I grew up with labs and was planning on getting a rottweiler. One night I found Slim Shady. I did not even know he was a pit bull. He was only 10 weeks old.(definitely a product of back yard breeding)When I found out what kind of dog he was I sure as hell was not going to keep him. But he was such a babe magnet at the time I figured I would hang on to him until he wasn't cute anymore. I never knew a simple dog could have so much personality. I didn't even know dogs had personality until I found and lived with Slim Shady for a few months.
No one is more fearful of pit bulls than my mom. I brought shady over when he weighed 10 lbs. She was paralyzed with fear. It was kind of funny because he couldn't hurt anyone even if he wanted to. I did not think I would be able to bring him over when he got bigger. Now Slim Shady is the dog she is least fearful of. She is still afraid of other pit bulls, but not Slim Shady. I try to point out the hypocrisy to her. Her only reply is "they're not all like Shady"
I won't even get into how I walk him past a school bus stop every morning and how 8 kids jump on him and pet him. He loves it.
Slim Shady is a clown, cry baby, and complete pain in the ass all at the same time. Even though I never wanted a pit bull, if I ever do get another dog after Slim Shady, it wouldn't be any other kind.
BTW Slim Shady is 5 1/2 years old now.

To answer the OP, I cannot think of one reason for owning this a PB.

Where is the stats for that? This is probably somewhat true of most dogs. Not just one breed. I don't know the percent. There are stats kept on attacks. According to those most often attacked by dogs are children and these children are usually attacked by a family/friend (i.e. known) dog. So it has nothing to do with Pit Bulls. People are less often attacked in general by some strange dog. The most common is also intact dogs. Although I don't know if that has much to do with the actual problem or the fact that irresponsible owners are the most likely to not spay/neuter and of course the most likely to neglect their dogs and not train/socialize them.

Id like to contest the whole pitbull putting muggers and whatnot off. Im the owner of a Staff who has recently had his collar cut clean off with a knife. Twice in two days in fact. Ive also had an intruder in my yard and my dog didnt care enough to get up off his soft spot. They (in my experience) are useless guard dogs!

Brian, you mean that someone came into your yard and cut his collar off not once, but twice? Was he in your yard and someone did that? That is awful! Apparently they didn't hurt him or take him?
