We're thinking of leaving her at home starting with first 8 hrs than 10 till we leave.
Good idea to wean her into this? Have a sitter coming over 2X/day while gone.
Thoughts? Thanks

You can't board her? At least she wouldn't be lonely then. A sitter coming twice a day isn't really a sitter, and that is an awfully long time between bathroom breaks. It is also an awfully long time for a dog to be alone when she is used to having people around all the time. I don't mean to make you feel guilty, but if you can swing it, then definitely board her, and preferably at a doggie daycare place where they have staff around the clock.

Is she a rescue dog? How long have you had her?

Dogs from shelters sometimes deal with separation anxiety. My dad and stepmom have been traveling a ton recently, and it's taken a bit of a toll on their dog, who they got from a shelter last fall.

She's six and has been with me (I take her to work every day) daily.
The thing I don't like about boarding is the kennel deal. I'll see if the gal can stay at our house.
Might be the best.

What kennel deal? There are boarding facilities nowadays that are so much nicer than the old kennel-only places. Dogs have a terrific time. I urge you to find a good, reputable doggie daycare place and get your dog acclimated to daycare...and then you can use their boarding services. If you can get a trusted petsitter to stay at your place, that's even better because your home is being secured as well.

By the way, she's a beauty!

Leaving her for 10 hours per day? I couldn't hold my bladder that long and I wouldn't expect my dog to either.

Having someone come in TWICE per day? Oh god, no. That means that she'd be holding her bladder for 12 hours? No. Just no.

Solutions:
1) Yes, see if the sitter can stay at your house -- for the company AND for the fact that your pup can be taken out more frequently.
2) Find a daycare (play time!) and overnight care place. Even if they put her in a kennel to sleep, at least she's not made to hold her bladder for WAY too long.
3) Worst case scenario is that you have to board her in a kennel-type environment. Again, they won't make her hold her bladder for (again) WAY too long.

Thanks to all. I think I'll have her (sitter) stay over night with Kodi and leave the back screen door open during the day. This is all new to us.
Miss Kodi Bear says Hi and Thanks.

Thanks, she truly thinks she's human. Very intuitive, like a child.

Problem with having people stop by to take care of dogs... what happens if they get sick? Or get crazed and tear up your house? Or bust out of the door when they come.

For an over night, maybe a couple of days... but longer then that.... kennel! Dogs do just fine
