I just read the article about the dog owner who was so devastated over the loss of her dog that she decided to clone him. I'm appalled. I think this is wrong on so many levels. I'm an animal lover and have dogs of my own which I love to death and can't bear the thought of them passing away one day...but it's part of life and it's going to happen one day. I think it's appalling and selfish to do this when there are hundreds of animals in shelters waiting for a home. And not to mention the price she paid- $50,000!
I just think this is totally wrong. I'm sure there are other reasons this topic is controversial, like the fact that it's going against the laws of nature, but I'm more concerned for the welfare of the dogs and the fact that there are other dogs without a home waiting for a chance to live. What do you think?
Well she was attached to the dog. That is clearly evident in the price she paid to have him cloned. I cannot go into her state of mind to read what she is thinking, but to her it isn't wrong.
I am with ShepsMom. No I would not clone my dog or a loved one for that matter as while it may look like the late dog or person it is not and never will be the same dog or person! I think it is very sad that some people do not seem to understand that a clone is not the same being and I think the money could be better spent on some psychological help to get over the loss.
I can remember an article on cloning that I read where some guy planned to have cells from his mother cloned when she died so that he could give her the good life she deserved. She had had a very rough life so he wanted it to be different for her . It l floored me that people can believe that the new being is the same as the one they loss as it isn't!
I also agree that there are already way too many dogs ad cats now so why would we clone them to create even more? Death is a part of life and people need to accept that. Once a dog dies it is gone and you can not wish or clone it back.

Oh no, I would never clone Gus or Cricket. They're a handful at it is!!!! Seriously, it would be to wierd. Kind of icky! I would go to the shelter and use the $50K for home improvements or retirement.
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I am against all cloning. Not only that I had a hard enough time of surviving the puppy stages with mine ( 2 Aussies) and they can not be replaced.
As much as I have adored all of my pets I would never think of having one of them cloned. It's reminiscent of the old book "The Boys from Brazil". Additionally, when they first cloned "Dolly" the sheep, her health was suboptimal and her life was shortened. Defintely a vote no from me.
Each pet is an individual with their own quirks. In my mind, cloning would diminish your original pet and would not be fair to the clone as you would always compare it to the original.

The article said she had to sell her home to pay for it! Even if it was offered for free, I would definately not clone mine.

Yeah I forgot to mention that too, I think it's irresponsible and cruel for us to do that because we don't really know all these side effects and problems that come along with the clone.

Now my late male dog, we used to joke about wanting to clone him all the time - he was such a doll! To us, he was perfection .
But my other 2? Nah, once is enough with them!
