It's quite possible that it wasn't "twice" at all, but that the dog had not yet been recovered between the two sightings. I do agree that people are idiots in general though and whether this was the result of a blameless accident or an idiotic owner, I understand your anger and distress and your need to vent here.

You know, that's true and I hadn't thought of that. Some people are idiots, but this woman may not have been one of them, if the dog got out accidentally once, and got lost for an extended period.

If I would have given her the benefit of the doubt and had empathy for her if I hadn't seen the dog in traffic the previous day.
Is it possible the dog was never caught and had been loose that entire time? Again, you don't know the whole story

If they were searching for their dog for days, they sure didn't look very hard. The dog was killed in the exact location I saw it the first time. Lost dogs don't stay in the same place for days.

I agree the likelihood of you seeing the dog TWICE in a number of days but the owner is unable to locate it are slim.
Also find it difficult to believe from the discription of the womans behavior when she realized the dog had been hit (obviously very upset) that she was someone who wouldn't have plastered the area with lost pet signs had the dog been actually been lost or run off.
Again I don't KNOW...but free roaming owned dogs are pretty much the norm here in especially in lower income areas so nothing really surprises me.

Um, yes. Sometimes they do. A friend of mine found her dog in the same spot where it was lost 3 days earlier. She had dropped a glove and the dog came back and sat by it, hoping its owner would return.

The fact is, even really stupid people can love their pets just as much as the rest of us. It's very possible this woman wasn't letting her dog out unsupervised but possibly the dog was an escape artist or grandkids were visiting and kept letting the dog out, or any number of things could have happened. Give me a 5 second look into your world and I guarantee I could find fault with how you manage your own dog. None of us are beyond reproach.

You're very defensive and making many excuses. This dog wasn't sitting in one place. This dog was running into a busy street from the very same yard on separate occasions.

Grandkids visiting isn't an excuse. If they let the dog out once, she should have ensured it didn't happen again. Escape artist isn't an excuse either. If you live next to a busy road, you correct whatever enabled a dog out the first time. You don't just let it continue day after day.

I'm sure really stupid people love their pets. The difference is they have to learn how to protect them the hard way. Some never learn.

Either way, way to have some empathy. You don't know the whole story. Jeez.
i definitely feel bad for the dog, but stupid owners? hell no

You dont know the whole story and shouldnt judge. Do you kow how many peoples pets get lost. 1 in 3 pets will escape at some point in their life. It doesnt matter how careful you are accidents can and do happen. They can happen in a matter of seconds. And just because you saw the same dog 2 times doesnt mean that the owner wasnt trying to find it. How horribly unsenstive and extremely judgemental. I hope that if you should ever lose your pet that you are not met with the same judgemental thinking and uncaring words as you have shared today.

Everything you stated is your opinion or an ASSumption. Nothing is fact. You do not know any of the details.

Exactly.
The only one getting defensive here is the OP because the rest of us are not jumping on the bandwagon to criticize the owner.
