Hi Everyone: I am new to this sub-forum and have a weimaraner mix that is 10+ years old. She has a serious obsession with licking our leather couch. She could do it all day and night. The couch is soaked and we've never heard or seen this before. Any suggestions or does anyone else have a dog like this. It is nothing serious, but it seems very weird. Thanks.

Is it licking the sofa or its paws? If it's the paws, it's allergies. Often switching to a high quality, low ingredient dog food for sensitive skin and/or digestion will improve the licking.

It could be boredom too, which you can train her to stop doing. If you switch dog food and it continues, this is a great thread about this where my suggestion worked. The OP resisted thinking it was silly and would never work, but she ultimately tried it and was amazed.

If he is licking the sofa itself, he could have an upset stomach. Read this thread for info about that.

I wish I could help but I have this problem also with our 6 yr. old Lab. We have the dog beds from Costco which are a brocade on one side and smooth suede like material on the other. If I turn it to the brocade she does not lick it at all but if it is turned to the suede side she licks constantly all night and by morning the bed is soaked! Our other Lab doesn't care about her bed and never licks. LOL! Try putting a blanket on the sofa and see if she still does it.
My only guess is it is the type of material because our girl does not lick at all on the one side. Is it the smell or the smooth type of material - I do not know why either but it is driving me crazy!

I will never forget that thread. A variation of your technique actually helped with a 'shadow and reflection herding' problem we were having with our dog!
