It's been several years ago, but I donated a van and the shell of a travel trailer to a charity that was approved to go beyond the wildfire evacuation line and take out pets that the residents were forbidden to go in and retrieve.
If a wildfire starts and your area is evacuated, they won't let you back in for your belongings and that includes your pets. This group had special training for going into the evacuation area to retrieve pets and livestock.
That has happened to me. I was in town when I got a call that my home area was being evacuated. I was stopped on the road going home and the police would not allow anyone to pass. I was frantic, but no amount of begging or crying about my dogs got me through.
It turned out OK. The fire didn't get all that close to my house and no one lost a house or pets. But when the call went out for donations for this new rescue group, I was on it immediately.
