Another Pit Bull Attack
Philadelphia PA, a pit bull attacked and killed a yorkie and injured the owner. The owner of the yorkie incurred $6k in vet bills in an effort to save the small dog. The pit bull responsible is being sought.
How much longer will the public put up with these vicious attacks? If a person were to do what these pit bulls do that person would be on death row. Guns are dangerous too, but they have to be fired, pit bull dogs go off by themselves. Please contact your politicians to get a ban on these vicious pit bulls.

Moderator cut: nope Dogs will be dogs. There is no scientific evidence that pit bulls are any more vicious than any other dog. A little girl was killed here in Arizona not too long ago. The news stations were screaming pit bull. Guess what? It wasn't a pit bull. That happens a lot more than people realize.
Sometimes there is a vicious pit bull that attacks, but for every one of those there are a thousand that don't. Why should they be punished. Moderator cut: nope again

It's not the dogs, its the owners. There will always be a breed that stupid vicious owners fixate on, ban one breed and they will move on to another.
20 years ago everyone was panicing about German Shepherds. Jack Russells were bred to hunt and viciously kill. Survey a few years ago showed that Cocker Spaniels inflicted more bites than any other breed. Yes. Cocker Spaniels. Second most common - Labradors, the quinessential family pet.
Legislate against the owners, not the dogs.

To me, this study that was done is proof-positive that pit bulls are the most dangerous breed. Glad to help you out, Donsabi!

This is getting to be a tired topic, but just a reminder, if it's going to be discussed yet again, please be careful not to personally attack anyone who holds a different viewpoint. As long as it's civil, we can leave the discussion open for those who want to discuss it. Thanks.

From what I've seen its the Pit Bull owner that fits the stereotype of wanting the most aggressive dog possible. My cousin owns two and they are great dogs. It is all dependent on how the owner raises the dog, just like how a parent raises a child.

just for the record, chihuahuas and pomeranians have killed more babies than "pitbulls" have killed people of all ages. I guess we should put all chihuahuas and pomeranians on death row

Looking forward to another 20 pages of back and fro till this thread gets locked.
There are studies to show that "pitbulls" have a better temprement than most dogs. Unfortunately the most abused type of dog is a pitbull and anything X with it.
Donasabi, did you happen to check out circumstances before you call for the ban ? Was the dog chained up and just got free and attacked ? Thats the way allot (IMO) of attacks occur, a tied up, stressed, unsocialised dog gets out and attacks. Pitbulls do not just go off by themselves, like any other dog.
Calling for pitbulls to be banned because of an attack on a dog is like calling for all Irishman to be deported because somebody got drunk. Its foolish and not thought out.

Donsabi: I partially agree with you. I have a 1 and a half year old, 7 lb yorkie and we live in an apartment complex with a pitbull. I would be terrified, if I hadn't actually met the pit. This litttle girl is the sweetest thing I have ever seen. She was licking my yorkie and playing mommy to him. It was so cute. If a dog- any breed- attacked a dog, they would need to be put down. But unfortunetly, usually mistreated animals are the ones that attack. Just like with the whole Micheal Vick ordeal. What kind of dogs did he use? Pitbulls. They are the number one dogs used in dog-fighting rings, so naturally they are the number one agresser in dog attacks... The whole thing is quite sad
