We have two Basset Hounds and as some might already know they are susceptible to joint/knee problems.

Well our male had surgery on BOTH of his rear knees that required his knee caps to be re-attached...quite an ordeal(also VERY expensive...)

So we are always concerned about him hurting himself.

Well he has started limping and seems to have done 'something' to one of his rear legs.

We have been trying to make him not run around or put much strain upon it but he is still favoring it and it has been four or five days.

What do y'all think?
Should we take him in or give it a few more days?

Thanks.

One of my dogs had cruciated tendons on each knee - one leg required some reconstruction surgery.

Since then, we took our vet's advice and we give her Glucosamine with MSM every day (twice a day - w/ breakfast and then dinner). It has helped tremendously.

With both cruciuations, my vet wanted to wait 5 days to see if my dog would release her leg to the ground (with the second one, she finally did, the first one she didn't, and that was the surgery leg).

I would call the vet and explain that it's been 4 or 5 days now, they'll probably want you to bring him in.

With limps that I can't find a good reason for I call the vet after 24 hours. If the dog has a history of trouble that is all the more reason not to wait.
