Today I was playing with him and stuck my tongue out at him and he went crazy. I've never had a puppy, he's still officially a puppy - he's 11 months old - or a dog react like that and wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience? He bowed and barked. He's still afraid of a lot of things, he's just getting to the place where he's becoming protective of his turf, growling and woofing at strange sounds especially at night. He won't come near me if I stick my tongue out, it's funny but only in a limited way, I don't want to intimidate or frighten him - he seems unnerved and unsure so as soon as I was sure that was the behavior he was responding to I stopped as funny as it seemed.

Think about what dogs do with the tongue. Maybe he thought you were going to give him a bath! LOL

Our pup did that too. And he was a little unnerved (in an almost excited way) when my husband would do a laser-eye stare at him and keep very quiet.

It's a different look on our faces, something out of place, something a baby dog isn't accustomed to. We do all sorts of things to change up the "normal", not to get a reaction from the dog, but to get the dogs used to changes. We still have routines, which is important to them, but little changes to their routines can be good. You can't believe how much trouble I had getting them to go into my Jeep from a different door than they were used to! But I made them to it, just so they know it was possible.

Our younger boy is 18 months old now and still play-bows and barks when I stick out my tongue at him.

How funny! I've had several dogs, most from puppyhood and of course each is different but never one as 'different' as Ben. He is part Shiba and I've read they are cat like, he is proving to be, he's truly a Heinz, I had his DNA tested and looking at him I see a lot of things - some people think he's a fox but I see shepard, also in some of his behaviors but his timid behavior is all cat, scaredy-cat! LOL

If I give Dazzle that Laser eye stare and stay quiet , he explodes in a sound that only hounds can make and starts acting very goofy. If I do it with Chaos she just stares back at me like " what? what ?"

They are so funny. I wish I had more time to spend reading and posting here - work, school and now my brother is ill and I am caring for him. Judy is like your dogs Katie, she ignores me when I do strange things. I think she spent too much time with my placid cat Orion when she was a puppy. Orion is my zen cat, almost nothing bothers him except other cats, he doesn't care for them but loves Judy! Ben loves 'em all, unless of course they make a funny face, LOL
