Just curious if anyone here is in the process of training an older dog basic obedience? How is it going?
We adopted Hobbs, our lab mix, about 3 years ago from a shelter. He's probably about 7 now. Taught him how to sit but resuming training on other basic commands and am very surprised how well it's going--of course, he'll probably do anything for food ! After his brief training sessions, he does the happy butt-tuck thing and races around the living room so he must be pleased with himself, too.

I prefer to train older dogs vs puppies. Older dogs have better attention spans and love the interaction. They are sooooo much more fun to work with!

In my experience older dogs are just as easy to train. We usually adopt older dogs from shelters (5+ years) and take them all through basic and intermediate obedience. They have all done very well. We have trained younger ones too and I see no difference.
