Thanks. I never miss an opportunity to trot out a picture of Terra.

She is a long coat shepherd. As a lifelong dog owner, with several breeds as well as several shepherds in my history, I can''t recommend long coats enough. The paws in the pic is our other dog, a rescue of unknown origin, and our house and my truck is full of white fur. Terra believe it or not barely sheds. Now when she is brushed it comes out in bails, especially when she is blowing out her coat in spring and fall, but it does not just fall off her like every single dog I've ever owned.

Well I know two are at my house! I don't think they're as popular as they used to be which in my mind is a good thing. They're amazing dogs but not for everyone.

Another lovely picture of Tara.

Thanks again everyone for the comments and Reps on Terra. Some day I have to learn how to make a comment when I Rep someone

Back on topic I think it's obvious that the popularity of some breeds change over time. OP is right, when I was young you saw a lot more GSD. When I was really young in the 60's it was Collies. Lassie no doubt was the influence there so of course that's what we got. I'm told in the 50's Cocker Spaniels were really popular, now you hardly ever see them. In the 80's it seemed to be Golden Retrievers. Now it's the day of the mixed breed rescue. 90% of the dogs at the dog park seem to be rescue mixes.

I have two wonderful GSD's that were mine, but, had to rehome and now I'm so upset they need to be rehomed again. I'm devastated I cannot take them I miss and love them. If anybody knows of somebody that would like these dogs let me know.

This is the female and my male looks like her only older and bigger.

ETA: Heres a way to remember the spelling Shep Herd. Sheep Herd. They herd animals.
Gotta love those spelling police. There's a thread for that, you know. I even post in it myself, and I don't nitpick unless I'm on that specific thread. You might try it sometime (or avoid it, in this case).

I can't take it anymore. Part 2

From the shedding are they a high allergy problem? Pets are funny -I had a pom and never saw a hair. lost of fluff- and it stayed on him- I like the dogs, but not enough space- I think large dogs need that room but some live on the 40th floor in NYC? Go figure

I was correcting the proper spelling of the dogbreed talked about on this thread. If youre going to ask a question and youre on a computer- google can help you spell as well.

I agree you don't see as many purebred GSD as in the past. I think there are several reasons:
1) Pure breed dogs are a minority among the many mixed dogs. You can see that with most breeds.
2) GSD are not easy to keep. It's a demanding breed with many needs
3) The breed was banned in many communities. Many cant get insurance with a shepherd in their home. Liability became a huge factor.
4) there are many "new" breeds that the public wasn't exposed to in the past. Many were imported from abroad and recognized by the AKC in the last 30 years.
