So sad. Our pets are helpless. Very beautiful and sweet looking dog.

Here are comments from another City-Data thread about this story. One member posted a link to a story in which Petco stated it no longer uses heat.

BTW, this happened here about 10 years ago. A small breed of dog was left to die in a cage with hot air blowing on it.

This sucks.
The person left the dog in the heater because they were on their way to a graduation ceremony. Not a thought to the poor dog, just went on their merry way.

How awful! This made me think of the time I took "Buddy" to the vet to have his nails trimmed and his yearly physical. Well I left him on my way to run errands around town and 30 minutes before it was time to pick him up I received a phone call to go to the nearby animal hospital. They cut one of his nails too close and he lost massive amounts of blood. He lived and the vet was very apologetic but I will never forget how I felt when I received that call that we was rushed to the hospital. My heart goes out to the dog here that was killed. Words simply can't convey how awful and disgusting this was.

They call them "dryer cages" and the temperature was 105 degrees. If that isn't heat, I don't know what is. This poor dog's body maintained a body heat near that for at least an hour even after death.

I was only posting a link with comments from another C-D thread on which I was told I was jumping to conclusions before getting all the facts. Did you bother to read the posts? I said it was similar to leaving an animal in a hot car, which is animal abuse, and should be punishable by law.

Cute dog. Hopefully she'll give another puppy a home and never take it to Petco again.

Yes, I did read all the posts on this thread. I don't understand your post. I agreed with everything you said and I was also confused with the Petco statement that they were no longer using heat when they are obviously using heat because of the 105 temperature. What did you think I meant from my post? That I was disagreeing with you?

I was referring to the posts on the other thread saying the dog could have been overheated before he arrived. I can't see how that is possible, especially if he had a bath. I assume both the owner and groomer would have noticed if he was panting heavily. It's a very sad story.

Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Thanks, justNancy! That's okay, I just wanted to clear things up and that I agree with you completely. No, the poor dog did not arrive overheated, especially after having a bath. Any living being spending such a long time in a "drying cage" would not survive - the dog was literally baking. I feel very sad for both the dog and the owner who has to relive and imagine what their pet went through and is probably blaming themselves (wrongly) for taking their dog to that place. I hope Petco goes out of the dog grooming business and just stick to selling pet products.
