Long story short, have a 5 month old puppy. Follows me everywhere.
Wife and I work from home, and we like to slip into the bedroom for a quicky(no kids around during the day).
The dog will sit outside our bedroom door and cry his head off.
Needless to say this is a distraction.
Can't put him outside, as we'd just hear him from the window near the door leading outside. Locking him up in another bedroom wouldn't help the noise issue as well.
He doesn't fall for distractions either.
How can we have 10 minutes of peace every now and then? I know others have had to deal with this, even if they're too embarrassed to talk about it.
You need to crate train him. Leave him in a crate for a few minutes each day with a toy and a treat. Slowly stretch out the time until he's happy enough in his crate with his toys while you play with yours.
I had to stop shutting mine out because they did the same thing. We let them in and they are told very sternly to go to "bed" . They head straight for their beds and take a quick nap. Also leaving the hound mix unattended in the house without being shut in their dog proof room generally means he will find something to get into. So he has to be the room.
We had to train them the "bed" command first. We would pat the bed(or blanket on the couch) and say "bed" then "good BED" once they lay down. Sometimes it took treats to get them on the bed, but they generally seemed content to lay down once there.
Now on occasion the beagle mix will.... watch. Which is super weird, but a stern No normally gets her to feel bad, then she lays down and won't look at me lol.

Yeah, uhm, just no, because that would indeed be super weird. I will never understand why people don't crate train their dogs. You can better control the dog and many of them feel much safer in them when their people aren't available to them.

Absolutely! I just crate trained my first puppy last year, I got him when he was 6 weeks old, admittedly it was super easy this way, because it was his security, he still sleeps in it today and generally still likes to chew on his toys in it, I just wish I would have done it with my other dogs when I was in my 20's, it would have made things so much easier. Can't believe I am admitting this but one dog thought we were fighting in bed and would go nuts barking...ugh it really is like having a kid walk in on you, you almost feel like you have to explain to them and owe them an explanation.
soda can's. Place soda (or beer) can's along a peremiter forming four walls. Place the puppy inside the square and let him work on getting out. Does not work on all breeds but is fun to watch. You can look it up on you tube.
Well after your done .... What do you do? IF you Ignore the pup then that's good BUT If you go make over him Then that's BAD! Cause he not going to stop!
