For those of you that bring your dog to the stable with you, please be extra careful when worming your horse and keep your dog out of the area during the process. Recently one of the dogs at the stable where I board became very ill from licking up a few drops of ivermectin (used for horse worming) that had dripped onto the floor, resulting in a stay of several days at the animal hospital. It is very easy for any dog to become ill from this, but collie breeds are especially prone to this type of poisoning.

Ivermectin is an ingredient in heart worm medications for dogs, but in much smaller doses.

Yep I've heard of that happening on more than one occasion....most Horsey Ivermectin is now flavored so it's even more inviting, as oposed to strongid...that's nasty all the way around...I have to mask it with a ton of molassas...LOL.
