Thanks, no kudzu. You should actually post this on the Cats forum as well, as many cats (like one of mine) love to get into gum--especially the mint flavors, which are reminiscent of cat mint.
My male border collie got into a pack of strawberry gum. He was 14 years old at the time and pretty decrepit. I deliberately put it in the middle of the dining room table under the belief that he wouldn't be able to reach it there. I came back to the scent of fake strawberry in the air and an empty pack of gum.
Took both dogs to the ER, and it turns out he'd eaten most of the pack of gum but had tossed a piece down to my female border collie too. She came home right away, but he was 2 or 3 days at the animal hospital while they stabilized his blood sugar and whatnot. $1700 mistake on my part :-/
How sad for everybody involved in this story. Glad he survived. What what were after effects, if any? Any serious damage to major organs?
No side effects. He was fine and thrilled to death with his stay at the animal hospital too - they were feeding him all sorts of things and on at least one occasion he stole a vet's breakfast.
