Hello, I just bought a car with leather seats and I think it may be too slippery for my senior dog with hip dysplasia to ride in comfortably. She was most comfortable in a Camry cloth seats but I no longer have that car. I bought my dog a dog hammock from Amazon but that was also too difficult for her to balance as she could not grip the ends of the seats with her claws.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what may work? She is 12 years old and 80 lbs with hip issues but riding in a car is her favorite thing to do. Thank you!

I use cushy bath rugs with a rubber bottom. They don't slip and are easy to pull out and clean.

Get a harness that attaches to a car seat belt.

Dog hammock plus bath rugs, perfect solution which I was looking for! We're using the hammock with a doggie blanket, but the blanket ends up all bunched up at the end of the trip. The harness is the safest solution, but if the dog is used to moving around in the back seat, it makes for an uncomfortable ride.

What about fitted seat covers? You should be able to find some decent ones at Walmart. (or at Canadian Tire if you live in Canada)

Rubber backed bath mat in my car. Costco has one that is really thick and cushy, with a very good non skid backing. It launders well and is a favorite dog bed even outside the car.

Hi, thank you guys all for these suggestions! I took most not if all of the advice.

I got bath mats and the harness as I already have a hammock. I thought too that harnesses were only made for dogs sitting down but I found one that has pretty good reviews that allows a dog to stand, lay and sit. Just waiting for that one the mail.

I am not sure if my dog loves the mats or is not comfortable standing on them as she lays down more often than standing and sticking her head out the window. But I feel safer with her laying down than standing so the mats are definitely helpful.
