Wow! It's unbelievable how some people are with this race BS! What year is this again?! It seems like there is ALWAYS someone wanting to make a big deal out something that is NOTHING! We are all people, regardless of someone's race, religion, sexual preference, etc, etc, etc. Not everyone is racists, in fact, I can't think of one person I know that is raciest. I would not be around people that would judge someone on something like the color of their skin. And not everything that has the the words "black" or "white" in it is meant to be racist! GET OVER IT!

Haha! We own a brindle dog, a white and tan dog and a black and white dog, so we should be good!

You would NEVER hear me saying anything bad about any race for any reason! I absolutely cannot stand people who are raciest and I cannot stand people that want to pull the freaking race card over every little thing! IMHO, it's ignorant, plain and simple. It is 2008! We cannot change the past, all we can do is learn from people's past mistakes and move on! Find something better to do with your time, or a better way to get some freaking attention!

I can almost grantee it would not have been made a big deal of at all! It is sad that people have to be so insanely careful about what they say or do. If it was something that was racists, yes it should have been made a big deal of, but it is so obvious that it wasn't racists in any way!

If you look closely at the picture in the ad, it does NOT in any way make any inferences about the african american population.

It is simply a picture of a dog with a top hat.

But the story DOES show the power of protest. They should, IMHO, use their power in areas that really need attention instead of this ad.

Ridiculous! I wish these people would go and find something constructive and worth fighting for.

When I saw the ad, the song "I'm putting on my top hat, tying up my white tie, brushing off my tails" came into my head

I wonder how many of the people who got their panties in a wad own big black dogs?

Mommie I am in agreement with you sorry if my post came off differently. You hit the nail on the head with the race card issue, to many people are willing to yank it out over the smallest little thing. There are tons of things they could accomplish if they would focus their collective in the right direction with well thought out logic.

Like you I am tired of seeing stupid issues being brought up over something as meaningless as this!!

OK. So the prevailing wisdom is that this was a silly thing to protest. However, I CAN see what they were talking about when they were doing it.
When you take the script style, the prominence of "Black Dogs," the lighter colored lips, top hat, cane, and that it was Black History month - well, I get it. Add that to it being in Texas. It is a strange ad and a strange promotion - to put dogs of a certain color on sale and to make a poster like this. Do I think it was their intention to mimic a black minstrel? No. They were trying to make a dog cute and adoptable. But I DO get the connection.

I do understand the connection, just not that it was meant to be racist. They thought of a way to promote the ADOPTION of black dogs. I mean what if it were to demean or kill black dogs instead, then I could see it has negative and I'd be PO'd. If they are going to connect dogs/people and do it negatively that would be something to get upset over. It is like getting riled because their are sports teams with the names red skins and indians. I'd think people should be happy that teams get named after their race or ethnic origin. What was ironic is a lot of NA didn't care and it was the over politically correct white people that were making a huge issue over one team at one point.

The sad thing is it may have been only 1 person who complained and then others over-reacted.
