I am pet sitting two labs until Saturday. I might not make it

I have an extremely obedient lab, so two rotten ones is not something that I have patience for. I am awake at 2:40 am because the one has barked all night long.

First one belongs to my parents. It knows no commands, completely untrained and will eat / chew everything under the sun, including the trim and siding off my house if I am not careful. He will mostly stay in crate until they pick him up.

The second one is my brothers, 6 years old, knows some commands but no where close to trained like my lab. He lifts his leg on everything. I won't put up with it in my house. He peed on the Christmas tree and wall and I banished him to the garage. He has barked nonstop.

How can I make him stop? I am thinking of running and getting a shock collar with a remote to zap him for the barking.

I am great at training dogs. Mine is a complete angel. Very well behaved. I am at a loss on how to teach old dogs new tricks, in 48 hours. And everything I would teach would just be a waste without consistency when they go home.

You can buy "bark collars" cheaper than shock collars.

You can change the setting..........they work very well.

Are these field labs?

In the short-term, I would suggest you exhaust the dogs. A tired dog = better-behaved one. Take them on several long walks a day. Hide some dog toys and/or treats and make a game of it. You can even try do some basic training.

When they aren't barking, for example, say "hush" and reward (hugs, praise, small treat, etc). Then when they bark, say "hush" and they should pick up on that pretty quickly. At least that should give you some peace.

Also, the basic sit command is pretty useful. Make them sit before they get food, water, just for the heck of it so you keep role as pack leader.

Drink more eggnog ----- babysitting the family dogs will be over in a few days.

Then never answer your phone again, when any holiday approaches, or was this a medical trip for one of the ?

I say that only half jokingly. There isn't much you can do when you know the dogs will regress when your brother and parents get home, except ------- drink more eggnog

True BUT these dogs Don't need Crated for 48 Hours No exercise! Best if the owners boarded them then they have a run to move around in.
