Do you have cheat grass or foxtail in your area? A cheat grass awn up her vaginal canal can cause bleeding. Or a cut or scratch in the interior.
It could also be a bacterial or yeast infection.
You are sure the blood is not in her urine?
If she is spayed it is not pyometra. That's the killer and she is safe from that. Vet on Monday. If she isn't running a fever ( you took her temperature, right?) and she doesn't act sick or have cold pale gums, she should be OK until monday.
Gosh! I going to watch her & hope its just Grass Never thought of that! & she was outside the other day...
When she was 5 months old I was sure she had a ear ache...shaking her head holding one of her ears over.. ran her to the vet turned out she had a cut inside the ear Once the Vet saw it she acted like everything was ok. But me she played the pitty act all the way. ugh
My older female dog had a urinary tract infection once and one of the reasons we knew was because there was blood in her urine. It was really obvious blood.
They can get them from being dehydrated, pick up bacteria where they pee, or when they have to hold their urine for too long (This was the case for her. The kennel she had been in expected her to pee in her kennel rather than let her out frequently.)
"Stump pyometra is a serious health condition that may occur in female dogs that underwent ovariohysterectomy (spaying), particularly if there is residual functional ovarian tissue. In this condition, the remaining stump of the resected uterus becomes infected and filled with a purulent fluid. The symptoms are similar to those of true pyometra. The risk of this condition is significantly reduced if no ovarian tissue remains from the original ovariohysterectomy. Diagnosis of a stump pyometra may be challenging as pyometra is often discounted as a possibility if the dog has been previously spayed."
That's True Suzy... I mentioned it to the vet along with possible UTI on Friday. Fingers crossed he rules it all out Monday. So far no change in her behavior. Eating or drinking habits. Bad thing is a Lot of medical problems in animals are like silent killers as they Cant tell you how they feeling.
Well Vet couldn't find a thing wrong. But considering her Diabeties & so many things like Grass..Not likely since we don't have Foxtail around here. passing a stone possible or just plain irritation from all the peeing she doing. She is on Ampicillin 2xd for 2 weeks.
