I have a dachshund. His belly is almost devoid of hair, with only a thin downy coating of hair. When he falls asleep on my lap, after awhile, his belly feels damp, but I am not sweaty.
I thought dogs could only sweat through their mouth, but now, I wonder.
From what I've read, dogs do sweat (notably through foot pads and nose) but they do have other glands on their body. However, any sweat glands located where there is an abundance of fur will be mostly blocked by the fur. They also pant to rid themselves of heat, and the wider the tongue when panting, the more hot the dog likely is.
