My poodle loves to wear clothes so I completely believe that he got all excited over the nail polish and prance around. Mine struts when wearing his jacket or a shirt. It's hilarious. My other dog hates wearing clothes so I gotta have fun where I can!

I really don't have an opinion on this since I don't own a poodle, however, I wonder what your opinion is on dyeing poodles different colors is.
I don't think it's cruel nor cool. I think it's unnecessary.

I have my schnoodle groomed monthly out of necessity. No dying, no painted toenails, no sprays to make him smell better. Only in heavy rain or extreme cold do I put a sweater on him. He's not a doll nor a child to dress-up. He merely tolerates being groomed so I don't put additional stress on him for unnecessary extras.

I don't like seeing it. I don't even like seeing dogs in stupid outfits, but that's just me. I don't think it's harmful, but just humiliating....not that dogs will know the difference.

I don't think it makes any difference to the poodle. A bath is a bath and a rinse is a rinse whether or not it leaves your coat pink. The dog probably dislikes getting wet more than they dislike being color coordinated, and some dogs don't mind having a bath at all.

I think it looks a bit silly, but it is not my dog and the dog hasn't been harmed. Those are vegetable based dyes that are not permanent. It's not like a human beauty shop hair coloring where they bleach your hair colorless and use harsh chemicals.

You know we've resolved largely all of our most pressing issues and are starting to get bored with our comfortable lives when we wring our hands about coloring dog fur. Or start coloring dog fur in the first place.

I would object if it became a way to sell cute puppies at Easter. Like they used to do with baby chickens. Oh, isn't that cute, impulse buy, later discarded or dies from neglect. But nobody is doing that. At least not so far. Many of the puppy mills are quite deceptive the way they sell puppies, but so far, they don't seem to be dyeing puppies in neon colors.

Color modified dogs all appear to be coming out of grooming shops, which means that coloring has cost someone a pretty price. Not a home where the dog is starved or living in filth.

I think it's frivolous and for some dogs sure- they might not enjoy the process and therefore it's a bit cruel. Other dogs will love being the center of attention- they will enjoy both the process and the fussing over how "cute" they are after it all. Still, it's a waste of effort imo. A well adjusted properly groomed animal should be the goal anything else is just fluff for instagram or facebook. That's not to say it's evil or awful- just a bit vacuous.

I don't think the dog knows they don't look natural, but I think they realize there is something wrong with them from the human reactions to them.

That's why I don't like dyeing them. Dogs really 'read' people's body language and other non-verbal signals we send them a lot, and not nearly as much as what we say to them.

They don't understand why we laugh, for example, but they come to understand that when we laugh, we are not always simply happy. Derisive laughter sounds different than happy laughter, or reactive laughter to a joke.
We understand it all instinctively, but they don't. They perceive the differences, but get confused as to what the differences mean.

That upsets some dogs a lot, while others seem to be oblivious, or just indifferent. Dyeing an insecure dog sure isn't going to make it feel more secure when it makes people act differently than usual.

At the same time, some dogs do a lot of grooming and others don't, so some dogs may be very self-aware of their appearance, but mostly in others' reactions to it. I think that the dogs who groom themselves simply like feeling clean, but a clean dog is a handsome dog, so it is reinforced by their owners in subtle body language.
