What I considered pride in my last Rotti, I'm beginning to think is actually a very sensitive side to their nature.
Most dogs don't like to be scolded but my old Rotti would really take it personally. He was a brilliant companion & I can only remember going off at him the once (He went off first & I hate to admit but it was my fault) & scolded him just a couple of times when I first got him at 18mo.

My 5mo Rotti was always in my way, never under my feet but blocking my path.
Yesterday I accidentally kneed his tail stump & it really hurt him, yelping in pain (he never even whimpers unless he's in pain) Because I was tired, irritable & in pain myself, I yelled at him for being in the way.
As quickly as I snapped, I realised that I'd hurt him & gave him a snuggle & said 'sorry'. Dogs are so forgiving.

From the age of 8 weeks old, I've used the word 'beep' to get him to move out of the way, where he'd take a step or two, usually into my path.
Since yesterday, everytime that I now say beep, he moves immediately out of my way, lets me pass by & now follows rather than trying to lead the way.
Just that one incident & it's like he now realises that he has to be aware of me, not the other way around (well, let's face it; Rottis really would like to be the boss, lol)
It's not only a sign of intelligence but also quite a sensitive streak.

Do others see this in their dogs?
