I have an 80 pound dog, who never seems to urgently need to pee.
When I take her out in the morning, after maybe 10 or 12 hours, she doesn't even seem urgent. She doesn't even act like she wants to go out. Thgen, when she's out, she'll run around and smell things for several minutes before she even thinks about her bladder. Then, it's just a little squirt here and a little squirt there. During the day, she never expresses a need or desire to go out.
She seems to drink a prodigious amount of water, maybe a quart or two a day. Where is it all going?
My boy goes out for about every 4-6 hrs, but the girl seems shy, she only needs to urinate twice a day.
When we're out, they can hold up to 10 -12 hrs.
For the puppy, you need to take her out for every 2 hrs, and the last time is before you and your puppy go to bed.
How often do we pee? Depends on how much water they drink. My hounds tend to go out every 2-3 hours whether they want to or not. If we wait for them to go, it is generally 3-4 hours?
Some dogs, you know if they want to go out by watching their gestures. When my boy wants to go out, he circles at the front door then whimpers if we still don't pay attention at him. But the girl has no sign, we have to take her out for her business.
You need to watch you dog and then you will know when they need to go out. Some can hold better than others, but if you love them, you'll take time to train them well, and then you and your dog will be comfortable and happy.
if shes drinking alot of water and only peeing twice a day (or a dribble here and there) id have her checked out by the vet, a UTI can make a dog "hold it" (burns) and diabetes caused a dog to drink excessivly but not typically urinate...
diabetes is always my first concern in a dog who drinks alot but doesnt pee much.
my adult female goes pee on average 3-4 times a day, morning, lunch, dinner and before bed.
my adult male pees whenever possible but he marks lol.
and my 16 week old pup has to go 6-8 times a day
My older dog only seems to 'want' to go twice a day. That's how she has always been. But we let them out more often than that, so who knows if she is also going those other times.
She will whine at you if she wants to go outside.
My younger dog will not, so it's safest to let her out three or four times a day.

Yeap, you have a point, when I had my dog, he would pee after he awake and eat and drink!
lol, 80lbs is NOT that big...
you cant call a dog "very heavy" (it comes across as you telling the op their dog is overweight) when you have absolutly NO idea what bred or how old the dog is.
my dog is 35lbs at 16 weeks, he could EASILY reach and even surpass 100lbs full grown but hes not overweight or "heavy" hes just a large breed...
mastifs can reach 200lbs easily...
sure 80lbs is "heavy" if your used to small breeds, but we dont knwo the dogs age or breed so cant decide one way or another if the dog is "heavy" and it has absolutly nothing to do with the issue at hand unles the excessive drinking is potentially a symptom of diabetese in which canse weight can agrivate such an issue.
