We just bought a 2017 RAV4 and love it! It came with the rubber floor mats as well as the rubber mat in the hatch area. We think it's perfect for our dogs, then again ours are 46# and 53#

We have a 70ish lb golden and a SUV (Tesla model x). Small SUVs/crossovers like Honda CRVs and Subarus seem to be especially popular around here for transporting dogs and seem to work really well.

Regardless of the car you choose, the best decision I found was to install rubber mats and/or a cargo liner in the hatch. The cargo liner doesn't offer the greatest traction, so for longer road trips, I fold down the rear seats, stuff his dog bed in the back, and he can just lounge in that. The only drawback I've encountered is ground clearance as he has issues jumping in from the back, but it's a trade-off given the high snowfall we see in the winter. If that's less of a concern for you, a minivan may allow for easier access.

Another Subie Outback owner. It has been great for our dogs. We have a Collie around 80 lbs and two smaller dogs.
