Hello,

Do you all recommend pet insurance and if so what company do you recommend? Does anyone have positive experiences with not having pet insurance? From my googling, it looks like some recommend and some don't advocate for it. Just wanted to hear firsthand. Thank you!

We don't have pet insurance, truly no need for it if one takes care of their pet and a plan. Our plan is a credit card dedicated for pet expenses. By using it to buy food, it keeps it active and interest free.

I don't have pet insurance. I thunk it's up to individual owner. However, I have multiple dogs so it's not feasible. Even if I only had one dog, doing the math would be far more costly for insurance vs vet bills.

What card do you have that using it will keep it interest free?

My dog was a stray and is a mixed-breed dog. She's fed high quality dog food. She has had health issues that are completely out of my control just like people develop issues that are completely out of their control. If I have a high bill, I pay with Care Credit. Then, I get reimbursed by the insurance company, and that money is used to pay the Care Credit balance. My dog needed surgery last year, and the pet insurance saved me a lot of money.

I have Trupanion. I've only had it about 8 months, based it on recommendations from a couple people at the dog park where we go plus the fact that my vet will direct bill to them. I recently had my first experience submitting a claim. The claim submittal was extremely straightofrward and painless. I had to do that because the claim was based on expenses at an emergency vet rather than my regular vet that would direct bill to them. It took about 4 weeks but just today, coincidentally, they sent me an email detailing the claim and explaining what had been put toward the deductible and what would be sent to me. So far. I'm happy with it. I've been told by some folks at the dog park who have done more extensive research that there are less expensive options out there but I put a premium on no fuss claims and reliability, so I'm happy with Trupanion so far.

We have pet insurance through the ASPCA and it's been worth it to us.

I have Pet Plan. They take up to 10 business days to process my claims, and it will take up to another week after that to get a check in the mail. I haven't had any issues so far.

Without some form of pet medical care insurance you may be faced with the decision to have the treatment and pay the bill or have your companion die a miserable death, or worse, have them put down.
It's not veterinarian insurance, it's for your peace of mind.

Vet bills just keep getting more expensive
Some pets stay very healthy for most of their lives but some can have a chronic problem.
If you can afford the monthly costs it is likely to be better financially and emotionally to have a fall back...
