It's so tough. I struggled with knowing when to put my dog down. Finally her tumor spread to her eye within a couple days. She wasn't happy and I knew. This cancer is so fast acting and that's what makes it so hard. One day they are happy and healthy, next they are dying and very fast. It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one.. I've been so angry at how unfair it was that she was taken from me so soon.

Sorry you are having to go through all this especially with your dad in the hospital dealing with lung cancer. I lost my mom to lung cancer What seems weird is that your dog is having multiple lumps. With Dash there was no outward visible signs until right near the end when his muzzle swelled up and his eye on that side swelled closed. There are different types of nasal cancer he had adenocarcinoma oddly that was what my moms lung cancer was too. I will keep my fingers crossed that the biopsy does not say cancer. My young dog Chaos just had 3 weird large lumps on her face so the vet did an aspiration and even sent it to pathology and all they saw was inflammation and with out treatment they have gone away. Hang in there and keep us posted on what you hear. If it is bad news there are many here who have traveled that road and can offer good support and even just listen when you need someone to unload on.Sometimes it just seems like life is beating us up and handing us too many bad things at once.

Vet rang today it's bad news they want to see her, she has what your dog had only hers are in her sinuses and untreatable but as long as it hasn't spread they are happy to let her carry on with pain relief it's weird as the vet was talking to me I was sat next to my dad who had been given the same prospect as the dog I love them both dearly and the thought they could go together doesn't make this any easier. Bet had a episode to night so we are taking a trip to the vet tomorrow I shall let you all know how it goes can't belive this is all happening at once

Two weeks ago I had to put down my dog that I had for 16 years. I had been dreading the day for 16 years. The day after Winnie died my other dog zooZee had blood coming from her nose. After many doses of antibiotics the vet says that he is 99% sure she has nasal cancer. I am heartbroken. I am so stressed and depressed I am loosing my hair. I am only 39 years old and have had my babies for almost half my life. ZooZee is 11. I will not put her through chemo or radiation. I have her on pain medication from the vet but she is not happy. She is still eating and drinking but Constantly sneezing blood. She is also depressed that her sister Winnie died. Does anyone know how long I have left with her? Please share other stories about the progression if nasal cancer.

Sorry to hear this. My male Doberman had nasal cancer. I treated him with steroids and if memory serves me right he lasted about 6 months before it spread to his brain. Very sad, he was only about 3 1/2 years old.

Default Golden 6 Years old - Nasal tumor

Our 6 year old Golden's name is Rocky.

Two weeks ago we went for a short hike with him and he seemed tired, and for the next couple of days he was extremely exhausted which has never occurred before. When he got his energy back, he experienced a bad nose bleed from his right nostril, along with some huge discharges. It stopped that night, but came back a couple of days later and was prescribed antibiotic for an infection based on his blood work. The bleeding stopped and he seemed healthy again for 4 days. On the 5th day after receiving and finishing his antibiotic the nose bleed returned. My heart broke in pieces after seeing this again. Everything I read pointed to a nasal tumor, but tried to remain positive.

The vet didn't think it was a nasal tumor and wanted Rocky to see a specialist for an ultra sound. The vet thought a possible auto immune issue. It didn't make sense, so I took Rocky to another vet. She took X-rays of the head and after reviewing them determined it was a tumor in his left nostril with bone loss. I couldn't see it, but after comparing both sides of the X-rays, he was prescribed more antibiotics and pain meds. NO alternate treatments were given, and radiation and chemo was ruled out by us.

He has good days where he has almost no nose bleeds, but other days with so many we question if thats fair to him. We will not allow him to be in constant pain and discomfort just for us.

In the meantime, I have to try something to cure this, even though I don't believe it will make much difference.

I'm started him on the following and looking into others....

Wheatgrass shot twice a day.
Immune mushroom formula twice a day.
Turmeric twice a day,
Curcumin with egg yolks and mct oil twice a day.
Intermittenting fasting using a ketogenic diet.
Sunlight.

Researching Vitamin D3 along with K2, but need to find toxicity levels...

A ton of other supplements (Chorlea, Spriluina, CLA, Bromelain, grape seed, DCA, Melatonin, etc) are available, along with colon hydro therapy and hyperbaric treatments would be considered but a lack of $$$ prevents this.

I thought of vitamin C drips as possible....

fyi-
In the last couple of months he started a habit of rolling in dirt from head to paw every chance he could get, not sure if this was connected to the nasal tumor.

I will continue to update this post to the end.

My sympathies for the loss of our 16 yr old and now for having to deal with this if it is indeed cancer. ( did your vet try I think it is Revolution in case your dog just has nasal mites? ) My vet tried that first with Dash as they can get mites from sniffing in the grass. If it is indeed cancer no one can say how long your dog has as it depends on how advanced it is, how aggressive it is and on your dog in general as dogs like us are individuals and things effect everyone differently. When you see things like 6 months to 1 year survival that is an average meaning some die within weeks and some may live for a few years so God is the only one that knows. Benadryl helped keep Dash's sneezing under control. Diet can help slow cancers too. I am glad to hear you dog is on pain meds. It sounds like you want to just keep her comfortable. There is what is call antiangiogenesis treatment which is a treatment that helps cut off the blood supply to a tumor which could buy time too . Drugs like Perixocam can be used. Dash got that and then a low dose cytoxin added to it and it was not expensive and were just pills he took and he had no side effects from either but there are other drugs that they can use too. The perixocam was nice as Dash was 11 and had a little arthritis so that helped with that too and had him zipping around like a young dog again.

I know it seems like a black cloud is hanging over you right now as I have been there myself lost both my parents , a 2O yr old neice and 3 dogs ( one each year 3 yrs in a row, 2 from cancers and 1 from renal failure following pneumonia all older dogs) so yeah I felt like why do bad things keep happening to me?But that is life and you find the strength to hang in there and start to understand that while it seems it does not happen to others it does and it was not you being singled out. Hang in there and load the love on your dog.

The most important thing is to do the right thing, which is not let them suffer. It's such an aggressive cancer that you don't have much time before you need to make the right choice. It's been 3 months since I said goodbye to Lucy and I'm still crying multiple times a week or even multiple times a day. It's so terrible but you need to live day to day with it.
