I ran into the story of a dog named Bruno. His people lived outside a small town in Minnesota ( Longville, Population 152). Bruno was found as a pup and adopted, but soon he began to walk the 4 miles into town every day. He did that for 12 years. He was known and loved by everyone in town - a statue was erected in his honor, he rode in the town parade, his Facebook page has 12,000 likes. Bruno died at 14, on his way into Longville to visit his friends.
Short summary of the story, Bruno had owners that refused to keep him contained and let him roam free. The townfolk thought this was “cute.” Predictably, Bruno met his end at the wheels of an automobile. Owners have no remorse for being irresponsible.
