My dog has been friends with a neighbor's dog ever since they met about 1.5 years ago. They've always played well together. Lately however he has stopped playing with her. He still pulls me towards her house or asks to be let outside when he sees her. She runs to him, full of enthusiasm, and tries to get him to play but he just sits and ignores her, looking confused. What could be the reason? We have not seen any signs of a health problem etc.

Most of my dogs that had dog friends that they spent a lot of time with seemed to suddenly one day no longer be interested in playing with them. They will still greet the other dog and be happy to see them but then walk away.

Jazz was about the same age as my parents dog Henry so they met as puppies and LOVED to play then sometime around age 3 Jazz not only stopped playing with him but acted like he was invisible and she did not even see him. We would go visit my parents and Henry would be all excited and try to get Jazz to play with him and she would trot right past him as if she did not see him. It was very sad as he kept trying. She would play with my other dog Dash and Henry would try to join in and even then she ignored him and poor Dash did not know what to do but being very loyal to queen Jazz when she was around he too tended to ignore poor Henry. We could never figure out why that happened as the dogs had never been in a fight. It was just suddenly one day when we went to visit she decided to ignore him and continued to do so until about the last year of his life then she started acknowledging him again.

How interesting. Maybe my dog will change his mind too. I wish he could talk and tell me what's on his mind!
