My opinion? All dogs and dog dynamics are different, and response needs to appropriate for your dogs.

I have a 2 year old I raised and a 5 year old we rescued, both males. We have had similar problems, but also very different.

The 2 year old only got couch possessive for a short while, I tried nice-nice which wasn't working, DH went hands on and he was banned from the couch for months. Problem solved.

Our dogs had one incident that concerned me when they got mad at each other and didn't separate by a verbal command, but no recurrences.

Neither resource guard, from us or from each other, though we watch them closely with high value treats, and they eat a foot apart from each other.

I would call in an animal behaviorist or a very good trainer. Lots of exercise is good too, can your BF help you walk them? I understand, both my dogs are over 90lbs and I'm 120.
LOL. Yeah, I remember after Steve and Dante had their dustup you had people telling you it was going to be an inevitable fight to the death.

This situation is different because it's an ongoing situation, not a one-off. But still, not an unmanageable situation. OP did great calling in a behaviorist!

Yea. I know my dogs well enough to know that we’re not in iminant danger right now. They’ve been fine ever since with no incidences and have been respecting the commands of off.

Again, I understand the danger of either of their dominance escalating, and I’m excited for my Tuesday appointment with the behaviorist. I hope she has some good insight. If it’s an on going visit schedule, I will do it for my dogs♥️

Thanks again.

And yea. It sucks BAD when your house doesn’t feel as settled as it usually does. But they are both capable. , and I’m capable, and they seem to enjoy being around one another 99% of the time. So, I know we have a good chance of thriving together
