On another board I belong to, somebody posted about dogs doing what they were bred to do, with pics. Great idea, so I thought I'd do the same here. How about you guys? What was your dog bred to do, even if it's just being a great companion?
Hmmmmm.....I don't think I can get a picture of my dachshund hunting badgers. For one thing, I don't think either of us know exactly what a badger looks like and for another thing, that would involve getting him off the sofa!
Was after a Search and Rescue training session do not have one during training as use 3 handlers and a runner.
If anybody is wondering I do breed these dogs for Search and Rescue also.
My female the smaller 1 was actually bred for show(KR JASMINE NORTHERN DREAMS)
My male the bigger one is out of top Search and Rescue stock (KR QUIET STORM OF RIB MOUNTAIN)
These dogs are not certified the female is good at it but training been lax lately. The male was just started when pic took and is better but again more training needed. A rescue I have is not good for this but may train for lne up search as in have evidence and suspects he sniffs evidence finds the comparison of scent.
I also have a 11 month old who will be starting her training soon.(KR ROSEBUD OF OUR HEART)
Pups that have been sold all have gone to homes interested in Search and Rescue.
Have some left if anyone else knows someone looking.

Reason: add on
Dreamhunter,
This is so fascinating. I have never known much about Search and Rescue. How is it that some dogs are good for one aspect but not another? Is it temperment? In-born skill? How soon can you tell what their strengths are? I'd love to hear more.
Anyway, we did some Sch training with my male, however i couldn't keep on driving 1hr 3 times a week to do that. Nothing else is close enough here. And we have no sheep to herd around here.
Well, they guard and protect. What else can i ask for!!

Um, I don't have a picture of it but my Weimaraner, Morgan, is VERY good at chasing and retrieving any and all chihuahuas who are foolish and ballsy enough to tease her outside of our fenced yard. Unfortunately, the owners don't appreciate this "service" but, hey, it's their own fault for letting their dogs run loose, right? I did lose my lovely picket fence gate over the last one, sigh, and had to install a metal gate.
ShepsMom, what lovely animals! And you gave me a laugh tonight - thanks!
