Does anyone know if Bausch & Lomb gentle saline solution can be used to clean dog's eyes? I thought the vet said it was ok to get regular contact solution. Since this is Sunday, I can't call.
Warm water isn't sterile!!! And if there's a laceration you do NOT want to get any bacteria or other organisms, such as fungus, in there.
Anything you use on human eyes you can use on dog eyes.
My pug's been going to a veterinary ophthalmologist for years and I've used all kinds of human eye medication on him - one of his prescriptions is for human eye medication, too.
The eye flush we use at our clinic is pretty much saline solution...sterile just like what you buy for yourself at the store. Just make sure it doesn't have any of the extra junk they put in (like the no-rub stuff). After I had lasik, my doctor gave me the individual little vials of drops, and now I really prefer those. He uses those because they don't have preservatives in them, but I digress. If you are using it just to flush the eye, and there isn't a serious injury, it should be fine to use regular, plain saline solution.
I use the store brand of sterile saline solution on one of my dogs... twice a day. It's fine.
This is an old thread, but a good one to revive just for it's basic info.
