Daily?
Isn't Comfortis give just once a month?

We're still doing Comfortis with Elwood, he didn't barf or spit up at all last month, but using Advantage on the puppy.

gave Comfortis 1st time last night to my Pug. By 4 am she was shakey, breathing shallow, puffed up all over, rigid. Had to visit emergency. He gave her injectons of steroid and benedryl. No more Comfortis for us!

Frontline Plus seems to be working fine on my 4 year old Cavalier. I tried Advantage when he was younger (about a year old) and he had an adverse skin reaction... took the hair off in a quarter-size circle... it took a long time to grow back.

Frontline includes the same ingredients as Advantage. Are you sure it was Advantage that you used and not something else?

I used Frontline for years with excellent results. I only had to use it once every few months until the past year the fleas starting getting resistant to it. I started promeris which worked for 3 weeks the first dose and then down to 2 weeks. my vet said the promeris rep said you could use it every two weeks, which I tried and it doesn't seem to last even that long now. It's been about 5 months on it. Now I'm looking at Comfortis and K-9 Advantix. We live in a wooded area so we do have some ticks, but mostly a really bad case of fleas. I've sprayed the yard and beds twice and the house once and will again next week. can anybody give me good advice on the safety of these meds. I'm tired of bathing my dogs constantly and waking up with flea dirt all over my bed from my jack russell. We live in LA so it's perfect climate for fleas and ticks.

It does?
Here is a list of flea/tick medications.

Advantix contains the same ingredients as Advantage: Imidacloprid, plus something else--Permethrin, for ticks.
The active ingredients listed for Frontline: Fipronil and Methoprene

Pesticides for dogs (http://www.vsrda.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=123:a rticle-flea-tick-ingredients&catid=1:current&Itemid=5 - broken link)

We're still hanging in there with the Comfortis on Elwood. He did not barf the past two months. But I am using Advantage and Interceptor on the puppy.

I used Frontline on my 22 lb cocker spaniel for years, until it quit doing the job for her. For the last three years, I've used Advantix, and it works great. No fleas, no ticks! Unfortunately, it's messy. My vet recommends Comfortis, but I just found out it doesn't take care of ticks, so I'll probably stick to Advantix. Cost is about the same.

Yes, it's horrible putting chemicals on my dogs. But the alternative, a single flea, results in constantly chewing their skin raw, then scabbing, more chewing.... the endless cycle.

Advantage worked for about 5 years and they hated it. I switched to Advantix, which is working great and they don't seem to mind it nearly as much.

I've heard Comfortis is only for serious infestation. I'd be reluctant to give my dogs anything that would make them vomit.

Default capstar vs. comfortis

One poster has Capstar confused with Comfortis. Capstar can be given daily. I have not used either but my vet told me about Capstar and my brother recommended Comfortis. Frontline Plus is not working and neither are the sprays I'm using. Waiting to hear back from my vet re: Comfortis. Capstar kills adult fleas for up to 24 hours. I'd rather not give my dog a pill everyday and would rather use Comfortis if recommended.

I've read that adding a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to the dog's drinking water helps deter fleas as well.

My dog has been on Advantage Multi (by Bayer) for the last four months. It's heartworm/flea/tick all in one. A topical.

So far it seems to be fine, but Bandit has NEVER had issues with fleas and is an indoor dog probably 95% of the time -- especially in the summer. The only "downside" I've noticed to it is that the last application had a burnt-chemical smell. I applied it, then over the next few days when Bandit was near, I noticed the smell. It wasn't horrible or noxious but it was noticeable when he was near. So I gave it a few days to work into Bandit's skin and system, and then I bathed him. Smell went away.
