Default VPI Pet insurance

Does anyone currently have VPI pet insurance for their dog? I have a 2 year old dachshund that is in good health...never had any issues, but it seems like every time I run into other dachshund owners, they tell me about all the surgeries their dog has had due to back problems. I would never sign up for insurance for basic dog vet bills, etc, however with a dachshunds hereditary tendancy to have back problems, I'm thinking that insurance may be worth it. I called VPI last night for a quote and it is $22 a month and specifically for back surgery... they would cover $2k. That amount would renew every year if there were more back problems down the road. Does anyone have experience with this company? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

We have VPI. We think it's worthwhile. We still pay the MAJORITY of our dog's bills, especially for major procedures, so it's definitely not like human insurance, but anything is better than nothing, right?

If you google VPI you will find a number of people complaining about this insurance... but maybe they did not have realistic expectations. I'll take it over nothing.
