I have learned the hard way that you get what you pay for. I have been purchasing Revolution from a company in Austrailia for mine and my son's dog. The packaging and website says that it controls hookworms. Well my dog was diagnosed with hookworms last week and I had just given him his dose not even a week before. I have been in contact with Pfizer who manufacturers Revolution. They claim that the one sold in the US does not claim to prevent hookworm. I am trying to get my money back from the Australian site. My main concern now, if it is a fake product they are selling, what validity does the heartworm protection have? Now I will have to have both dogs heartworm tested...Not worth it to save a few bucks purchasing overseas.

Interesting! Apparently the active ingredient in Revolution, selamectin, IS effective against hookworm in cats, but not in dogs.

Guidelines for Veterinarians: Prevention of Zoonotic Transmission of Ascarids and Hookworms of Dogs and Cats

Perhaps the place you purchased the Revolution confused the dog and cat versions in the text on their website. The package insert should indicate the parasites that the product is supposed to control. If that insert doesn't state that it prevents hookworm, the product may not be fake--the website's description was wrong.

How aggravating for you!

One suggestion: If your dog is on heartworm meds year round, a test every couple of years is a good idea. If you give heartworm meds seasonally, do an annual test. Nothing is 100% effective....

The website does say hookworms for Revolution, so the website info is wrong. I buy Frontline Plus from them and the packages are from Pfitzer. I compared one bought from vet to the one I bought online and they were the same.

Sorry you were mislead, since I think I was the one who recommended them.

THe companies website says hookworms, but Pfizers website does not. Only for Cats.

Not to worry Keeper, I thought I was making my own informed decision.

an update,

the company after some hyming and hawing has agreed to refund the money on the dog that has hookworm.

I will still take my son's dog to the vet when I visit next week to make sure he is healthy!

Good for you for insisting they be accountable for their error. Congratulations! Your diligence will probably save others from going through what you did. Hope your son's dog checks out okay.
