You have a great looking dog racelady88!

I purposely take pics of my dog outside in the sunlight, and shoot at an angle. It makes for great pictures of her. Maybe rescues and pounds will be taking a little more time to get some better pictures of black dogs in the future.

I really do think black dogs are beautiful. I never understood the whole black dog thing. I also think black cats are beautiful - like little panthers!

I love the pictures - keep them coming!

Wow. That turns my stomach. If I do get a dog I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for bringing it to the attention of those of us who hadn't heard of this.

Is that poolside dog a doberman or a mini pin?

She's a Miniature Pinscher. She's only 12" tall and 16 lbs...but she thinks she's a BIG dog and tries to eat like one too.

Rottnboys: You have a great looking bunch of dogs!!! They must be a ton of fun.

I really hope people become more aware of the problem with black dogs not being adopted. They make great family members.

When I visited Best Friends in Utah, the residence I visited most did seem to have a large number of largish, black or mostly black dogs, and of course they weren't really young.
I personally am drawn to dogs with markings, but after having a shiny black elegant lab mix girl, I rethink my initial reactions.
Black Labs are very popular family and suburban dogs, and they're sure all black. Maybe it's a mutt bias?

Default Black dogs

I volunteer for a animal rescue group. If we have black dogs or cats they are the last to be adopted. It is a fact, people will take white or brighter colored dogs or cats before black ones. The only time black is popular is around Halloween. We will not put black animals up for adoption around that time.

I think it's crazy, but yes it is true. I have 4 foster dogs now that are 95% black and people have not adopted them in the last 8 weeks. Tomorrow we will try again. In the mean time they get older and older then they are really hard to adopt out. Everyone wants puppies or kittens.

Wish me luck

We had a black dog before, but she was out of control (literally) and was euthanized after she bit an animal control officer. Can't remember her breed though, but I always thought she was beautiful. I have a Mastiff male mixed with German Shepherd and his face is black and his body is the shepherd color with the Mastiff large body size.
