I have a 14 week old Black Lab St. Bernard Mix. She was the runt of 13 pups. Her sister is twice the size. We've treated her for worms 4 times in the past month. She will not eat. We force fed her A&D puppy food when she was 6 weeks old, and she finally began to eat that. Suddenly stopped. She is too thin! And now lack of energy! Drinks water like crazy! What could be causing this??
She was eating scrambled eggs for a few days, it seemed that was the only thing I could actually get her to eat. She likes the cats food, but I won't allow her to eat it.

How long has this been going on? How old was the puppy when you got him? It sounds like a voluntary thing to me since the dog is interested in the cat food. A picky eater is generally a dog that hasn't had adequate exercise or is being overfed. I would be inclined to put the food out, if he turns his nose up at it, cover it and place it in the fridge. Let him skip a meal if he so chooses. It won't hurt him. Puppies don't need to be fat, just look at wolf cubs; they are skin and bones but still grow to be 100 lbs. He'll eventually get hungry enough to eat anything you put out for him (and long before he starves to death). My experience with finicky puppies is that once they get hungry enough to eat what you're serving (and not what he's asking for), it will not be a problem anymore.
We took her when she was 4 weeks old because the mom wasn't feeding. The owners were not helping, so it was a bad situation for all the poor pups. She's had the problem for weeks. We let her go for a couple of days, putting fresh food out and she walks up and sniffs, and walks away with her head down. She seems sad.
tried the rice, tried broth, tried just wetting her dry food. Tried only hard, tried only soft, tried a mix. She's going to the vet today. Thanks for suggestions!
Hello, i have also had the exact same problem with my 12 week puppy, Brock.
He is an English Mastiff, i am going out of my mind to come up with things to get our baby to eat.... its just soooo sad
Help me please, what did you vet have to say?

She doesn't need any more worm treatments. No vaccinations -- at least until she is better. All puppies drink water like crazy. But the fact that she is half the size of her sibling is disconcerting. However, you've indicated she eats some foods, so she may be a picky eater. I'd start feeding her real meat, hamburger, steak and chicken thighs, and see if she eats that.
For you people with new puppies -- they get depressed when they are separated from their litter. A puppy that is anxious and insecure does not eat. When the puppy feels safe and comfortable, it will eat. Also vaccines can make a puppy sick.

I was told that dry cat food is TOXIC to dogs!!!!! Esp to puppies!!
