I have Boston Terriers and we call it the "BT 500!" My Frenchie gets a bad case of the "zoomies" most evenings too.
We don't put a stop to it though - it's part of who they are and sure burns off that last bit of energy before bedtime.

I only wish that I had read this thread about a month ago. I'm typing as the tears role down my cheeks. We adopted a lab/mix the 9th of January this year from a shelter. At the time she was only 8 mos. old. What a sweetheart she turned out to be. Loved her so much. But we couldn't keep her from running down to a neighbors yard. We live in a lake subdivision, no fenced yards. I would walk her on a leash and when we would get to a certain spot on one of what we call 'a back road', I'd let her off of her leash and enjoy watching her leap like a deer through the woods.
As long as one of us stayed in our yard with her, she would be right by our side. But if we'd come inside, off she would go. The neighbor complained all of the time and I can't fault him for this. So we decided that she may be too much for a couple of seniors! She is now living with a younger family with 2 children and they say that they are all attached to her. For her sake this is good news, but for selfishly on my part, I am sad. I miss her with all of my heart. Everyone I talked with had said let her go to a younger family and so we did.
Now I know we can never have her home with us again. I need to adopt another as soon as possible to help fill this terrible void in our lives. This time I will be aware and informed of what to expect and do so many things differently. Always on a leash when outside. We did take numerous walks and now I find those hard to take by myself, I see her everywhere. I apologize for this rambling, but this thread just hit me in all ways.
Whatever y'all do, have patience and just enjoy every single moment with your furbabies. They are indeed so precious. Take care and Happy thoughts for all.

Northwoods, I am so sorry your dog didn't work out - but you did the unselfish, loving thing for her. You will find a calmer dog that fill fill your heart, too.

The trouble with lab type dogs is their energy level. Between my husband and I, we walk the dog at least 10 times a day (including at least 1 off the leash runs).
She is full of energy an hour after a walk. Right now she is sighing and looking at me because I did not walk her long enough this morning (my coffee cup was calling me).
She also is 'bored' a lot but I cannot spend 100% of my day devising entertainment for her.

Help! We adopted Herby from the SPCA nearly a year ago, and although we love him dearly...he is still NOT housebroken. I do use enzymatic cleaners when he goes on the carpet..and clean it with a steam cleaner with NO steam (so it doesn't set the odor) We have tried everything, crate training, taking him out constantly...to no avail. He just doesn't seem to be getting it. Any sugggestions?
