I know this sounds weird but I need to find a warm sweater for my almost 3 year old lab. Ben has a whole in his heart and is on 7 medications including blood thinners. We had our first cold front move thru the other day and it was about 65 degrees in the house. Ben was shivering. He teeth will actually chatter. I had that big ol baby on my lap (the top half sort of fits) on the couch with a blanket over him.

Last winter I tried to buy a sweater on line but I guess I didn't measure correctly and it was way to small. He weighs about 60 pds.

So any idea on where to buy one? Petsmart only carries small sweaters. Also if I buy it on line, how do I measure him?

It's a good thing I live in Louisiana. He'd never make it up north>

Try PetEdge.com Wholesale prices on exclusive dog grooming and pet supplies They are reasonable and I believe have bigger sizes for larger dogs. I'll keep checking around but this was the first place I thought of.

I know they have a "processing fee" of $6.99 if you don't spend over $60 but I'm not sure of the shipping fees. I've ordered from them a couple of times but it's been a little while.

I want to get this for my lab but he is about 85 lbs and I'm afraid it wouldn't fit him. I know he'd wear it once and that would be the end of it but it looks soo cutte!

Orvis has great quality stuff for dogs. We buy a lot of gear for ours there.

60 pounds is probably a size large. My Shepherd that I just lost was an extra large. I wish I could use his adorable sweatshirt on my new baby. I don't think labs get that big -- ever!!

Try Dr's Foster & Smith. They have a site online and several coats...

Generally, the weight is what is on the label. Sometimes they give the measurement of the length of the body but with a sweater you're going to have lots of stretch.

I've had better experience with sweatshirt fabrics and other woven fabrics over sweaters. Sweaters get pulled too easily putting!

Pictures... when you get it!!!

The other great thing about Orvis (if you have one near you) is that most of their stores are dog friendly (at least the one in Arlington, VA was!), so you could bring your dog with you to try the sweater on.

My problem is that we have 3 dogs so bringing them in any store is a challenge!!!
