Okay.....the title is self-explanatory.

Our neighbor has 5(!) outdoor cats -- we currently live in a loft building with common outdoor areas. The cats use it as a litter box and my dog (a Brittany Spaniel) is feasting!

Why do they do this??? We are moving to a house with a fenced in yard in a month, so I don't really care about stopping it at this point -- but I want to know the appeal because it grosses me out!

i wish i had the answer myself. before i moved the cat's food, water, and litterboxes to the basement (they are very good about going downstairs to use them) My dog would chew on their poop too. maybe they think it's chocolate?

Sorry, that's just yucky LOL

One theory is that cat food is very high in protein and cats' digestive tracts aren't very efficient. Cat food is very high in protein and their stool still has protein and nutrients remaining which some dogs feel is tasty.

Well, my puppy ate some cat poop a couple months ago and I freaked out and called the vet. They told me that cat poo is like a delicacy to them (high in protein and stinky, just the way dogs like it) and is actually healthy for them to eat. Now, kitty litter isn't good, but the poop is perfectly safe...even if it's incredibly disgusting and makes me really wish my Pug didn't love me and want to lick me so much :-)

Because it comes from that most magically delicious of all places... A CAT'S BUTT!

Don't know about your dogs, but when my dog is allowed by a cat to sniff that cat's butt...boy is she in heaven! So I figure, if she likes the catass that much, the cat poop must be like candy.

OMG......that is so funny about the cat butt.

The thing is, my dog -- a bird dog no less -- seems to HATE the cats. He terrorizes them and stalks them and if they get to close he goes after them.

At least I know it is harmless (but gross!!)

All dogs love cat poop.

My friend's dog eats other dogs' poop and that disgusts me.
